The UniversalTab extension lets you add new SwarmUI tabs that are iframes. Each tab can display any web page you want, which is a flexible way to pull external tools into the SwarmUI interface instead of alt-tabbing away from it.

Some things people put in one:

  • A local LLM interface.
  • The SwarmUI documentation pages.
  • Photopea, for image editing.
  • Hugging Face or Hartsy.AI, for model downloads and image uploads.
  • Anything else that supports being embedded.

Back up your SwarmUI configuration before making changes, and uninstall the HartsyCore extension if you still have it. It was removed to comply with the SwarmUI extension guidelines.

Features

  • Create multiple universal tabs with custom names and URLs.
  • Tabs persist across refreshes and restarts.
  • A settings panel for each tab to customize its name and URL.
  • Add, edit and delete tabs dynamically.
  • The default page is the Hartsy.AI homepage.
  • Automatic URL validation to check iframe compatibility.
  • Safe tab deletion, with a default tab created automatically if you remove them all.

Planned but not built yet: letting your Swarm instance interact with the iframe content, tab reordering, and importing and exporting tab configurations.

Installing

Open Server > Extensions, find "UniversalTab Extension" in the list, press Install, and restart SwarmUI when prompted. To install by hand, close SwarmUI, clone the repository into SwarmUI/src/Extensions, run update-windows.bat or update-linuxmac.sh to recompile, then restart and refresh your browser.

Using it

  1. Navigate to the Utilities tab in SwarmUI.
  2. Click the UniversalTab sub-tab.
  3. Use the settings icon to edit a tab's name and URL, add new tabs, or delete tabs.
  4. Changes save automatically and persist across sessions.

No manual configuration is required. Your tabs and their settings are preserved between sessions on their own.

Troubleshooting

A tab will not load

Make sure the page you are trying to load supports iframes. Many sites refuse to be embedded. Use the settings panel to verify the URL, and confirm you have permission to access it.

Something else is wrong

Check the logs for error messages or warnings. If that does not explain it, open an issue on GitHub or join the Hartsy Discord community.

Changelog

  • 0.3: tab persistence, settings panel improvements, and URL validation.
  • 0.2: the ability to add multiple tabs.
  • 0.1: initial beta release.
